Post Compass - These days two years ago, the Vatican officially recognizes a Palestinian State in a treaty. This triggered the anger of Israel and accusations when those steps undermine peace prospects.

The agreement concerns the activities of the Catholic Church in the Palestinian territories. This is indicative of the Holy See has shifted his diplomatic recognition of the Palestine Liberation Organization to the Palestinian State.

"Yes, it's a recognition there are countries (Palestine)," said the Vatican spokesman, the Rev. Federico Lombardi.

Israel Ministry of Foreign Affairs said it was disappointed with the development of it. This step according to Israel not to promote the peace process and the Palestinian leadership to distance from the direction of bilateral negotiations.

"Israel would study the agreement and will consider the appropriate measures," the Ministry said then.

The agreement was reached before Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas visited the Pope at the Vatican Francis.

Since the Pope's visit to the 2014 Francis of the Holy Land, the Vatican formally calling Abbas as President of the Palestinian State. In the Vatican's latest Yearbook, Ambassador to the Vatican was recorded as the representative of the State of Palestine.
